Summary:
Accomplishes the Recreation program objectives by planning, organizing, and directing all functions required to operate and maintain all youth recreation programming which includes youth wellness and recreation programs.
Implement and establish recreation programs that address community needs.
Oversees all the functions required to operate the teen center, active childcare area, and all wellness center youth programming.

Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
Plans, develops, and implements healthy lifestyle/recreation programs and promotions for youth and families.
Coordinates with Tribal departments and outside agencies to offer collaborative programming.
Establishes, implements and communicates goals, objectives, policies and procedures in accordance with a strategic plan.
Pursues funding opportunities, writes program related grants, develops processes and provides oversight to measurement, evaluation, data collection and reporting processes to meet program and grant requirements.
Improves staff effectiveness by counseling, training, and recommending disciplinary action for youth recreation employees:
planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.
Develops and maintains recreation policies and procedures and ensures that safety standards are met.
Oversees Tamaya Wellness Center drop-in childcare services.
Achieves financial objectives by assisting in preparing the annual budget and proposal, inclusive of operational plans and objectives; recommends staffing and expenditures.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
Maintains strict confidentiality of participant information.
Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
Assist in other Tamaya Wellness Center programs initiatives and administrative tasks as required.
Supervises work of all youth wellness/recreation, adult recreation staff, and drop-in childcare staff.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, or other Health Sciences or related field plus three to five years coordinating health education/wellness/recreation programs is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in delivering youth programs.
Experience in developing program goals, objectives, activities, and outcome measurement.
3 years Supervisory experience required.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license; must be able to pass a background check.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:
Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of program planning, development, tracking and reporting.
Knowledge of motivational techniques and practices in healthy lifestyle change.
Knowledge of budget preparation.
Skill in supervising, training and evaluating assigned staff.
Ability to plan, create, and deliver informational and educational presentations and classes.
Ability to gather and elicit public input on wellness needs.
Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
Ability to be certified in CPR, First Aid, Glucose and Blood Pressure monitoring.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit or stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to walk, run, and participate in fitness and sports activities.
The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office, wellness center, or outdoor setting with a moderate noise level where employee may be exposed to unpleasant odors, hazardous material and infectious disease.
Work may also be performed outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts may occur while performing physical activities.
Work environment may include exposure to life and death situations.
Situations where protective gloves and/or protective face shields are needed may occur.
Evening and/or weekend work is required.
